White Spruce Tree
I saw a painting in Maine, either at the Portland Museum or the Andrew Wyeth/Farnsworth Art Museum, of a tree. unfortunately I can't find it online. It was blue and green and so effortlessly done, a beautiful painting of swishy colors in characteristic 1960s vibrancy and abstraction. A single pine or spruce tree. I paint trees a lot. Each one so individual and unique. Like a portrait. This painting in Maine inspired my tree portrait paintings. I hope all my paintings express the moment, the season, the angle of the sun, the smell of pine and the kaleidoscope of greens and blues. I paint purposefully outside within the natural environment to add to the painting all the mystery, observations, and surprise I witness while painting. I use high quality paints from Gamblin, that have archival ingredients to keep your paintings' colors maintained and fresh. I glaze my paintings with a coat of Gamblin Damar varnish to protect them from environmental effects like fading, cracking or flaking. All my canvases are initially prepared with 2-3 coats of Gamblin Oil Ground, this ensures that the painting will adhere to the canvas, and subsequent layers of paint, the ground is oil based. The sides of the painting are left white or painted a neutral gray. Each painting is wired and ready to hang and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
