Jeffery Pine, Taylorsville
Taylorsville is just north of Quincy, CA. It's a small Sierra town and the landscape is beautiful, especially in spring, and especially the long meadows surrounded by mountains. This has to be one of the most joyful paintings I've made! I even had a comment from a passerby: "it looks like you really enjoy painting". I had no idea my colors, brushstrokes, and subject would convey that idea, that the joy I feel in being out in the wilderness, painting, surrounded by sunshine, wildlife, and quiet would transfer to the painting. But apparently, it does. That makes me happy and I hope this joy and appreciation of nature passes on to the viewer. We are only here for awhile, mere guests on this spinning globe, this is the best way I know how to spend my time. This painting of a giant Jeffery Pine with its branches against a sky of puffy white clouds was challenging because of the angle of looking up all the time, but I wanted to express the size and majesty of this tree - likely older than me, and standing at the edge of a meadow like a beacon.
Painting, Oil on Canvas
Size: 16 W x 20 H x 2.5 D in
