Charred Pines
I made this painting in Taylorsville California, just north of Quincy. I had never visited this area after the Dixie fire in 2020. Image miles and miles of burnt landscape. It was so overwhelming, and otherworldly that it seemed a bit like visiting the moon. This view of a stand of pines looked like it had been freeze dried, all pine needles still intact. The colors of the trees, their stark black trunks against the blue sky communicated both beauty and destruction.
